survey engineering

What is survey ?

Surveying is a science and art of determining the relative positions of points on, above or beneath the surface of the earth by means of measurement of distance, direction and elevation either directly or indirectly. lt is essential in a process of determining the positions of horizontal and vertical directions in a plane. These the professional survey definition but survey is actually the method or way from which all  planning and design of all civil engineering projects such as construction of highways, bridges, tunnels etc are based on survey measurements .
Survey is used to do different civil engineering tasks .Surveying includes levelling, in which it is possible to find the elevations or level or heights of the points with respect to a given or assumed datum. levelling is essentially a process of determining the positions of points In  vertical plane.
Without surveying the construction work cannot be carried on , so surveying is the basic requirement for all civil engineering projects and these surveying job is assigned
to a person who measures with the use of a theodolite and he is called as survey engineer and the surveying job is called survey engineering.
