New super wood found to replace steel in the field of construction

Super wood .

We all know how steels are used in construction mainly because of their durability, strength and resistance. In this the most common steels used are carbon steel, aluminium, copper tubing and Stainless steel and even titanium  . But now engineers have found something which we would call as the super wood. Yes, thats right in early days we used woods for conconstruction.  Mainly  in America . But now because wood lack in strength we use steel . But the're is no need of that as we have super wood .

New process could make wood as strong as titanium  alloys but lighter and cheaper. 

Engineers at the university of Maryland have found a way to make wood more than 10 times stronger and tougher than normal . And the cost is also cheaper than any steel . Engineers  say that this wood can even compete  with the ultimate  carbon fibre . They say that it is strong as steel, but six times lighter than it. The team tested the wood by shooting bullet at the normal and the New treated wood . The fully treated wood stopped the projectile part way through 

How did they do this ?? 

The existence of a limiting concentration of lignin, the glue between wood cells, to maximize the mechanical performance of the densified wood. Too little or too much removal lower the strength compared to a maximum value achieved at intermediate or partial lignin removal. This reveals the subtle balance between hydrogen bonding and the adhesion imparted by such polyphenolic compound. Moreover, of outstanding interest, is the fact that that wood densification leads to both, increased strength and toughness, two properties that usually offset each other," said Orlando J. Rojas, a professor at Aalto University in Finland.
